Digital and mechanical technologies are increasingly touching Ugandan agriculture—from mobile phones and apps to solar pumps and precision tools. Agri-tech can improve information, efficiency, and market access.
Mobile and information
Farmers use phones to access weather, prices, and advice. Mobile money enables payments for inputs and produce and can support savings and credit. Extension and advisory services are also delivered via SMS, voice, or apps.
Mechanical and energy
Solar-powered irrigation, efficient drip kits, and small machinery can reduce labour and improve productivity. Cost and access remain challenges; partnerships and financing can help scale adoption.
Integration
Technology works best when combined with quality inputs, training, and markets. Integrated models that link digital tools to input supply, irrigation, and off-taking can deliver measurable gains for smallholders.
